Is there anything more immigrant coded than the group chat? More than just a way to stay in touch with far-flung family and friends, group chats are a social space where things get complicated, nuanced and even a little heated. And season 3 of Friday Talks, Take It to the Group Chat, is bringing some of that energy to your computer screen. Hosted by Friday Things founder and editor Stacy Lee Kong, Take It to the Group Chat is a six-part video series that tackles different aspects of the immigrant experience through thoughtful conversations with a panel of experts.
This is the third season of Friday Talks, an interview series of six 30-minute video interviews featuring innovative, and celebrated artists, designers, writers, community leaders, and industry leaders from equity-deserving communities who can speak to the many facets of the immigrant experience. Themed around a quintessential communication tool for immigrants of all backgrounds—the group chat—this series will use panels with multiple guests to continue exploring a variety of immigrant experiences . My overarching goal for this project is to create a space for vulnerable, honest, in-depth conversations that might happen in closed, private circles, but are not being featured in the mainstream media channels.
